The American Legion Post 93 of Orcas Island concluded its 31st Annual Salmon Derby this past weekend with 69 participants.

Proceeds from the event go to supporting programs sponsored by the American Legion and the Sons of the American Legion for Veterans and their families in need, high school scholarships, and children on the island who are in need of shoes, just to name a few.

On Saturday night, 52 door prizes were handed out for those entered in the derby. They were all donated by local merchants.

Cash prizes were given on Sunday night and the winners were:

First prize, $1100: Thomas VanWingerden, 15 lbs. 6 oz.

Second prize, $500: David Hintz, 14 lbs. 8 oz.

Third prize, $400: Matt Minnis, 12 lbs. 5 oz.

Fourth prize, $250: Bruce Wiscomb, 12 lbs 4 oz.

Fifth prize, $150 (Islanders Bank Savings Bond): Andrew Stevens, 11 lbs. 11oz

Sixth prize, $150: Jim Manthly, 6 lbs. 6 oz (Blind draw weight)

Seventh prize, $150: Brett Bennett, 5 lbs. 13 oz (Blind draw weight)
