Two special events are scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Orcas Grange.

Starting at 3 p.m., a talented group of Orcas Island singers in grades five through eight will perform their favorite songs in a competition for the Orcas Idol Junior crown.

One young singer will be named Orcas Idol Junior by judges Gene Nery, Terry Anderson, and Grace McCune and will perform his or her song as well as sing in a group with all of the Idol Junior contestants at the popular Orcas Idol Season 4, coming to Orcas Center Feb. 7.

Adult performers take the stage at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 24 to audition for the upcoming Orcas Idol. Judges Nery, Anderson, and McCune will select the participants who will go on to compete. Popcorn and beverages will be available at both events. Admission is $5 at the door for Orcas Idol Junior and $10 for adult auditions.

Orcas Idol Season 4 showcases local talent singing songs in three genres: pop/rock, jazz/standard/Broadway, and country/folk with the winner receiving a cash prize of $200 and a professional recording session.

Idolizer advanced tickets, with “center of the house” reserved seating, are still on sale through Jan. 23 with a $50 donation (see www.spotlightonthepositive.com for how to order). Regular ticket sales for Orcas Idol Season 4 will begin at the Grange on Jan. 24 after each show and will then be available at Radio Shack and Darvill’s Book Store starting Monday, Jan. 26.

The proceeds benefit Orcas Island Prevention Partnership, which brings together nine community organizations committed to prevention and promoting a safe and healthy community free of substance abuse.
