Accident at the market

According to witnesses, a Honda Accord driven by an older Orcas Island woman, accelerated out of the Key Bank drive-up lane into the Island Market parking lot Monday, April 7 at about 12:20 p.m. crashing head-on into a Subaru Legacy driven by a 67 year-old woman who was pulling out of a parking space. After hitting the Subaru, the Honda Accord bounced off of a Honda Odyssey parked on the opposite side of the lot.

After hitting the Subaru, the Honda Accord bounced off of a Honda Odyssey parked on the opposite side of the lot.

Bystanders reported smoke coming from the engine of the Honda Accord and helped the elderly female victim from her car. Orcas Fire and EMS responded to the scene. The fire department cut the power to the Honda Accord and EMS treated both victims.

The driver of the Honda Accord was transported to the medical center. The driver of the Subaru was released after being interviewed by San Juan Deputy Sheriff Maya. The owner of the Honda Odyssey was in the market at the time of the accident.
