Wine and Cheese pairing evening with The Local Vine at The New Leaf Cafe

Have you ever wondered which cheese you should serve to best complement a glass of your favorite bold and fruity red?

Sarah Munson from renowned Seattle wine bar the Local Vine, together with New Leaf Cafe Chef Steve Debaste, will prepare and present delicious pairings of wines and cheeses during a June 15 epicurean evening class at the Outlook Inn. As part of the Children’s House 2010 Culinary Season, the two connoisseurs will draw on their expertise to deliver entertaining anecdotes, useful information, and many samplings of local and regional wines, artisanal cheeses, and complementary nibbles.

Munson, a Master of Wine candidate, is the co-founder of The Local Vine, an award-winning wine bar Bon Appetit magazine selected as one of its 2008 Top Ten Wine Bars in the nation. The bar offers its guests tastings by the glass selected from over 100 wine varieties, and has been featured in TravelGirl magazine, AOL’s Luxist.com, the Seattle P-I, Seattle Met magazine, the Seattle Times and more.

“What kind of cheese goes well with Champagne? Does Bleu Cheese pair nicely with Pinot? Learn some simple tricks that will bring ease and elegance to your home or event… everything you need to know to impress colleagues, friends and family!” reads the Local Vine’s website describing their popular Seattle wine and cheese pairings.

Debaste earned 2006 Pacific Northwest Chef of the Year and has led kitchens in Seattle at 1904 Restaurant and Wine Bar, at the first Palomino restaurant, and at Microsoft and Guckenheimer. He once lived in a chateau in France, but now calls The New Leaf Café home and is inspired by the wealth of local organic farms and fresh seafood in the area.

Bring your friends to share delicious pairings of wines and cheeses, learn how they are made, and discover how to create a beautiful cheese platter from your home.
