Friday, Dec. 19

Dinner Theatre The Outlook Inn is preparing for another November Dinner Theatre with dinner by Chef Sean Paul Frank and a performance by the Victorian Room Readers Theatre. Reservations are highly recommended. Theatre ticket and 3-course dinner is $30; theatre-only tickets are $8. Dinner orders must be received by Tuesday, Dec. 16. Beverages will be available for purchase. Christmas Potluck West Sound Community Club’s Christmas Potluck will be held at 6 p.m. Please bring a dish to share and your own plates, utensils and whatever you would like to drink. Baked ham will be provided by WSCC. There will be a short business meeting after the potluck. Come one, come all!

Community Band Concert The nearly 40 members of the Orcas Island Community Band will strut their holiday spirit in their traditional holiday concert this coming Saturday at the Orcas Center. The complimentary performance (donations accepted) at 7:30 p.m. includes a free dessert reception in the Madrona Room afterwards.

Community Christmas Dinner 10th annual Deer Harbor Inn Restaurant free Christmas dinner. Enjoy a five-course turkey dinner. The festivities start at 2 p.m. and go until 6 p.m. Reservations are required; please call 376-1040. They will be accepting non-perishable items and cash donations for the food bank during the dinner.

Teen New Year’s Eve Party The Funhouse is hosting a Teen New Year¹s Eve Party for both middle and high school students, from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. The Funhouse is also having special holiday hours. It will be closed on Christmas Eve Wednesday, Dec. 24, Christmas Day ­Thursday, Dec. 25, and New Year¹s Day, Thursday, January 1. During the school break, the Funhouse will be open from 3-5:30 p.m. on non-holiday days, as well as from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. (The Funhouse is closed on Sundays.) Lopez Farmers’ Market poster contest The Lopez Island Farmers’ Market is holding its 3rd annual poster contest, open to Lopez Island residents and 2008 Farmers’ Market members. A cash prize of $400 will be made to the winning artist. Deadline for submitting camera ready artwork is February 1, 2009. The winning poster will be used to promote the 2009 market season and will be for sale at the market. Winter solstice concert On thelongest night of 2008, the Lopez Center for Community and the Arts lights up to celebrate the winter solstice with music, poetry and stories, starting at 7 p.m. Stanley and Kip Greenthal, with Jamie Laval will perform spirited instrumentals and traditional and original songs of the season. Special guests Alie Smaalders and Rosie Sumner will add their storytelling magic to the evening. Tickets in advance: Adult $15, Youth $8. Salmon presentation Lopez citizen scientists invite the community to join them at Lopez Center at 4:30 p.m. for “Salmon-ation,” a celebration and recap of their first year of research on south end salmon nurseries. Activities include a slideshow, microscope demonstrations and food. Children are welcome. Admission is by donation.
