Lysistrata
The Sealesque Cabaret Series and Orcas Center are presenting the dance theatre piece LYSISTRATA in the Black Box.
Follow Lysistrata and her band of Renegades as the salvation of war-torn Greece lies in the hands of the matriarchy. This 45-minute show incorporates burlesque and cabaret stylings to reinterpret the classical comedy by Aristophanes for a contemporary audience. Featuring a powerhouse soundtrack and an all-local cast. The performance is for mature audiences ages 18 and over.
The show run dates are Thursday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. A DJ dance party will follow on Friday and Saturday starting at 10 p.m. Free admission to the dance party with a ticket purchase or by a cash donation at the door. Tickets to LYSISTRATA are available at www.orcascenter.org.
Organizers ask attendees to consider bringing cash tips for performers or scan the QR code on your show program to support the dancers.

Love Bites: Sharks in the Pacific Northwest
Roses are red, violets are blue, spend Valentine’s Day learning about sharks, and maybe ratfish too!
This Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, the Whale Museum is hosting a virtual workshop on sharks and killer whales. “Love Bites: Sharks in the Pacific Northwest (and the whales who love to eat them)” is now open to the public for registration.
This all-day workshop will feature a series of expert lectures. There are at least 14 species of sharks in the Salish Sea! Sharks play a critical role in marine ecosystems as predators, yet many species remain misunderstood. The Whale Museum invites you to join this workshop and hear all about these fascinating fish and the killer whales that prey upon them.
For more information about the workshop and to register, visit whalemuseum.org. General registration for the workshop is $35. Registration for members of The Whale Museum or the Salish Sea Association of Marine Naturalists is $25.

The Fire of Love
The Fire of Love – second Annual Valentine’s Day event at Orcas Center is on Friday, Feb. 14, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. in Madrona Room, Orcas Center, by donation. Enjoy hot cider, tea and popcorn. Bring your own mug and some yummy finger food share if you like.
“If the world is to be saved, this is how we do it.”
That quote is from a person who shared at the recent memorial for Artha Kass here at Orcas Center. So many people that day spoke about the love they experienced from Artha and those words speaks to the heart of what so many of us are wondering about these days. With that intention, please join local artist/writer Debra Lee Babcock and poet Jill McCabe Johnson to our second annual Valentine’s Day event at Orcas Center, immediately following the Textile Show opening in the Madrona Room. There’ll be an open mic signup sheet at the event, five to eight minutes each, for your own work or just a favorite on the topic. Come with your friends and your beloveds, including yourself.
