Sports-related senior projects

Orcas Island Booster Club

Each year, every Orcas Island High School senior must complete a “Senior Project” that stretches their learning and benefits their community. We are very excited that several OIHS seniors are doing sports-related senior projects this year. Read below and view the attached proposals. If interested, donate to one or more of these great projects! You can donate through the Booster Club on our website; please indicate what your donation is for in the memo or note line!

2025 Sports-related senior projects

• Ava Ashcraft worked wonders in the high school weight room by repainting all the walls. We are excited to move the new equipment from the Holiday GiveOrcas campaign into this updated space.

• Forest Frausto is organizing a track and field fundraiser, May 1-31. Forest hopes to help purchase more track and field equipment with the ultimate goal of being able to host a home track and field meet – starting blocks, hurdles, new sand for the jumping pit, timing system, etc. Read more at https://docs.google.com/document/u/2/d/10sXMKjSYjI59IZTCWY_Q7l9JU1R_fu6alEQIwBlxzdM/mobilebasic?urp=gmail_link and donate at https://www.orcasboosters.org/donate.

• Kristian Freeman is building a “Welcome to Orcas Island, Home of the Vikings” sign to greet drivers when they roll off the ferry. The sign will recognize the state-level accomplishments of Orcas Island High School athletic teams over the years. Check out Kristian’s GoFundMe for more info and to contribute: https://gofund.me/83f66298.

• Kevin Ibarra Garcia, inspired by the fiery Viking pregame chant, will create a sign designed on the C&C router to decorate the boys’ locker room.

• Remy Lago is organizing a 3-on-3 basketball tournament at 10 a.m. on May 10. Team registration deadline is May 8, with a grand prize for the winning team. For more info and to sign up, text 360-317-4288.

• Marley Moxley is collaborating with Orcas Parks & Rec to improve the home-team softball dugout.

• Demetrio Salenas Cruz is coordinating a benefit coed soccer game to support the revival of girls soccer at Orcas High School.

Thank you, Ava, Forest, Kristian, Kevin, Remy, Marley and Demetrio for giving back to our school and sports programs. Thank you to our sponsors and supporters for helping these student-athletes thrive both in the classroom and on the field/pitch/track/court/course.

Go Vikings!
