Series of tango events this August

Ruth De Vicenzo and Tango En Vie are collaborating to bring a weekend of soulful tango music and dancing to Orcas from Aug. 22 to 25. The schedule is as follows. It is being organized by Sara Thomsen, who grew up on Orcas.

“On Orcas I stayed connected to the nature around and inside me,” she said. “This allowed me to follow my heart and spirit around the world and move to Argentina for love and Tango.”

Thursday, Aug. 22

Classes at Oddfellows Hall, 6 to 7:30 p.m. basic tango elements, 7:30 to 9 p.m. navigation with the elements, asado (potluck BBQ) and opening milonga at Golden Tree Hostel, 9:30 p.m. to midnight, DJ music.

Friday, Aug. 23

Classes at the senior center, 6 to 7:30  p.m., cadencias, 7:30 to 9 p.m., boleos.

Tango at Random Howse, in the old Agave building, live music with Ruth and DJ Jud, 9 p.m. to late, $15.

Saturday, Aug. 24

Classes at the senior center, 12 to 1:30 p.m. giros turns, 1:30 to 3 p.m. entrances.

Sunday, Aug. 25

Classes at Oddfellows Hall, 12 to 1:30  p.m. cool cross-walking, 1:30 to 3 p.m. changes of direction.

Milonga at Cascade Lake, 4 to 8 p.m. DJ Jud, $5. Bring your suit and something for the grill to dance in the summer sun at the lake!
