Second annual Local Poets Showcase

In celebration of National Poetry Month, and following on the popularity of last year’s poetry reading, Orcas Center presents An Evening of Poetry by Friends and Neighbors on Saturday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the OffCenter Stage.

The evening is curated by local writer JoEllen Moldoff, who leads the Orcas Writers Roundtable, a group that meets monthly at the library to hear and support each other’s work. Moldoff circulated an open call for writers and received more than 30 submissions.

From those, she selected 17 writers whose work “deserves to be shared in a public forum. I am grateful to Orcas Center for the opportunity to coordinate this intimate evening of poetry, and to the poets who’ve stepped forward to contribute to the evening.”

In addition to Moldoff, who will read, the participating writers are: Nancy Ayer, John Friedmann, Anita Leigh Holladay, Jill McCabe Johnson, David Kobrin, Jan Loudin, River Malcolm, Elsie McFarland, Jim McKeon, Lin McNulty, JoEllen Moldoff, Suzanne Olson, Joan Pedrick, Michelle Reed, Sandy Thompson, MollyBee Welkin and Ken Wood.

Tickets to An Evening of Poetry by Friends and Neighbors are $10 and available at the door of the Off Center Stage, and in advance at the Orcas Center box office. Patrons are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets in advance because seating for the reading, in the OffCenter Stage, is extremely limited.
