The Orcas Island Yacht Club is sponsoring an open contra folk dance at West Sound Community Center to benefit Sail Orcas on Friday, Sept. 20. Each couple dances with each other couple in the line. Scotch, Irish, French Canadian jigs, reels and polkas are knit into a celebration just as seafaring villagers did in the 1700s. Judy Zeidel is the host and caller and live band Contraversatile will perform. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; a demonstration is at 7 p.m. and the dance is from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Bring a dessert to share for the mid-evening break. Entrance is a $15 donation.
