Rock on the Rock and Orcas Center present: Magical Mystery Tour — A Beatles Music Extravaganza!

Submitted by The Rock on the Rock team.

Orcas Island’s own Rock on the Rock Choir, created by Grace McCune in 2008, has brought to the stage with Jake Perrine shows such as: “Moulin Rouge,” “Across the Universe,” “Rock of Orcas,” “Teatro Titikookoo,” “Kids Movie Musical,” “This is Me,” “Cirque Us” and “What Dreams May Come.” Rock on the Rock is back and bigger than ever with this new Orcas Center production, “Magical Mystery Tour!”

McCune is joined by an amazing team of collaborators to bring this unforgettable production to life. Perrine will be leading the charge as our new Orcas Center executive director, holding the space for this production to go off without a hitch. The one-and-only Tiffany Loney is our dance choreographer. Orcas Island’s own Jim Bredouw will be leading the live band with an all-star lineup of musicians, including Gene Nery, Martin Lund, Joel Gamble, Melody Funk, Bruce Harvie and Jeffrey Horton. Kevin Colomby will be sculpting our sound, as he does so well, as sound engineer. Legendary Deborah Sparks will be at the helm as co-creative director and set director, along with Chris Brems (known for his incredible set designs for all of the Enchanted Forest Cabarets) as our set designer and engineer. The very talented Stormy Hildreth is the co-choral arranger and score designer. Amber Bolt is our stage manager. To top it all off, for the first time ever, Rock on the Rock choir will be joined by Bruce Lanford and the Orcas Choral Society for an epic finale to this show!

Directed and created by McCune, “Magical Mystery Tour” is a re-imagined approach to the songs we all know and love from not only the Beatles’ “Magical Mystery Tour” album but also selected songs from the vast anthology of the Beatles’ repertoire, featuring original choral and band arrangements written by McCune, Hildreth and Bredouw. This one-act show has an original storyline, written by McCune and Sparks, that follows the life of a young musician named Martha (Martha My Dear) who decides to risk her comfortable life to follow her dream of being a professional musician. Set to the backdrop of the 1960s-1970s music scene, Martha is joined by a troupe of “Merry Pranksters” traveling on a Magical Mystery Tour bus that unveils what life is like playing music from town to town across America.

Rock on the Rock is offering these various ways of participating in the production:
