Bill Wolfram was enjoying a walk on Jones Island when he spotted something unusual.

The Lopez resident, who sails throughout the islands, discovered what he thinks may be a cedar totem wing, measuring 32 inches long.

“It perhaps drifted in from the south, e.g., San Juan, as there had been very strong south winds in the days before,” he said. “It seems rather recent carving because the wood is fresh-looking in places. Looks to me like an eagle, but I’m guessing.”

Wolfram is hoping the owner will claim it. If no one steps forward, he will hang on to it until the summer, and make another effort to reach the owner. To contact Wolfram, email sailbillcom@yahoo.com.

“I’m fairly certain the wing came from here in the islands and that it’s not old,” he said.
