    A 63-year-old island business, tucked away in the woods above West Beach, enters a new phase as Orcas Island Pottery brings bronze sculpture to its rambling site. Syd Exton, owner of Orcas Island Pottery, is preparing for the official opening of the new Bronze Sculpture Garden on June 27 from 4 to 7 p.m., as she arranges inventory, weeds the gardens, and installs a pond where one of the new bronze sculptures will be featured this summer.

    Evan Fraser will release his new CD “Organica” at the Orcas Island Grange at 8 p.m.
    On Saturday, June 28, Fraser and Tbird Luv will play a fusion of world sounds from 8 to 9:30 p.m. There will be a short slideshow afterwards to raise awareness about Tbird and Evan’s documentary film project “One Cause, Many Voices.” Doors will open at 7:30 p.m.

    The Waldron School held its annual end-of-the-year school play and graduation the evening of June 12 at the Waldron School House. Following the processional, “Pomp and Circumstance,” performed by a small ensemble of student musicians, including snare drums and violins, Principal Barbara Klein presented diplomas to graduating eighth-graders, Zach Edwardson and Naomi Boydston.

    Summer should be in full swing on Saturday, July 19 in Olga – the day when smiles, good food and live music will welcome islanders and visitors alike to the traditional Olga Daze “Sell-a-bration.” As always, included in the festivities will be a fanciful parade (led by bagpipes) in which everyone is invited to participate, a fire truck for kids to explore, a giant Yard and Barn Sale, local historians on hand, an extensive Silent Auction, the much-anticipated quilt raffle drawing, games for young and old, food concessions to suit all tastes, a BBQ and a bake sale — including the now-famous Olga Daze maple bars.

The program runs from June 21 to August 2, and is open to children of all ages, from preschool to young adult.
