Orcas twins win 2010 Orcas Idol Junior

When their names were called, the twins were stunned.

Emy and Lisa Carter, long-time contestants in the Orcas Idol Junior signing competition, took home two crowns on Jan. 23.

Their a cappella version of “Connected” wowed the judges – Terry Anderson, Grace McCune, and Martin Lund – and moved some audience members to tears. The twins were joyfully surprised when they were announced as the 2010 winners. They will perform again during the Orcas Idol finale show on Feb. 6 at Orcas Center.

It was a tough competition, with musical numbers that ranged from oldies to show tunes to modern ballads.

Devon Mann and Adia Dolan started off the show with an impassioned rendition of “Eight Days a Week.”

Christian Bailey wore his finest superhero costume, complete with the trademark black cape, to enthusiastically perform the theme song from “Great American Hero.”

Mikaela Hansen brought out her guitar to sing a moving ballad that she wrote herself called “Spread Your Wings.”

Alicia Susol performed an emotional rendition of “Goodbyes,” and Felicia Grossett got in touch with her inner diva to sing a sassy version of “Fallin.’”

Lindsay Lancaster represented theater lovers by performing a sweet version of “Honey, Honey” from “Mamma Mia!” and Daria Stankevich sang the 2009 song “Fireflies” with a strong, clear voice.

Gabrielle Carver fired up the audience for the last song of the afternoon with “Party in the U.S.A.”

Judge Terry Anderson told the contestants: “it’s a privilege to watch you grow and improve every year.”
