Create comfort with fidget quilts
Join Brenda Bacon at Orcas Senior Center for a creative fidget quilt workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 1-4 p.m. This hands-on session is designed to guide participants in crafting small, tactile quilts that offer comfort and engagement for individuals living with dementia.
Fidget quilts feature interactive elements such as zippers, Velcro, buttons, ribbons and textured fabrics — designed to keep hands busy and minds soothed. Bacon will provide sewing machines, basic materials and step-by-step guidance. Sample quilts and handouts will also be available to spark ideas and creativity.
Whether you’re new to sewing or an experienced quilter, all are welcome. Donations of materials are appreciated to help support the project.
No registration required. Questions? Contact Bacon at 704-957-0683 or baconbc@outlook.com.
Medicare open enrollment
Between Oct. 15 and Dec. 7, you can review your Medicare coverage and decide if changes are needed for 2026. By now, you should have received information from your current prescription drug (Part D) or Advantage plan. Read it carefully — premiums, deductibles or copays may increase, and coverage may shift. Even if your plan looks the same, your health needs or prescriptions may have changed, making it worth exploring other options.
Join us for a presentation on 2026 Medicare changes on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 1 p.m. at Orcas Senior Center. For one-on-one help, call 360-376-5892 or attend a walk-in enrollment event: Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 12:30 p.m., or Saturdays, Nov. 8, Nov. 22 and Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
