The group blends a five-piece horn section with a hard-swinging rhythm section and tops it off with the soulful voice of Gene Nery. Other members include Steve Alboucq, Tony Morales, Martin Lund, Gregory Books, Dimitri Stankevich, Bruce Russell, and Craig Canine.

“We feel bad about our last concert because of the ice storm,” said sax player Books. “Those who didn’t make it should come to this concert.”

The performance is on Saturday, Feb. 12 starting at 8:30 p.m. in the Odd Fellows Hall. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for 12 and under; they are available at Darvill’s.

The event is a fundraiser for the Odd Fellows’ student scholarship, which is awarded to a community-oriented high school senior every year.

Orcas Horns embraces the infectious rhythms and groove of funky R&B, soulful Gospel, and latin grooves. During intermission, the group will pay tribute to Bob Marley, who would have been 66 this year.

Orcas Horns, which has been together for three years, plays several concerts a year. The band has a gig in Friday Harbor in May and is set to play at the One World Concert in June at Orcas Center. Books says the band is also performing next fall at Orcas Center with a 15-year-old “jump” piano player from the Midwest.
