Orcas Door to Door reaches its 2,000th ride

Lahari is proud to announce Orcas Door to Door’s 2,000th ride for homebound seniors and adults with disabilities on Orcas. This achievement highlights Door to Door’s community role in supporting seniors age in place.

“I couldn’t have made it to my physical therapy appointments without you!” – Angelica Mayo.

This significant milestone of 2,000 rides comes after four years of community volunteers offering rides to help seniors stay connected and make vital appointments. Door to Door re-opened after being on hiatus during the height of the pandemic and has recently made it back to pre-pandemic rides requests and ride fulfillment.

Orcas Door to Door is a transportation service designed to help island residents get to on-island medical appointments, shopping trips, and social and community events. Orcas residents age 60 and older and residents with a temporary or permanent disability are eligible to enroll. Rides are provided by volunteer drivers using their vehicles, and requesting a ride is a simple as making a phone call at least two days in advance. Door to Door is welcoming new volunteers and riders.
