New Orcas School Board member

Submitted by the Orcas Island School District.

Bridget Broderick has been appointed as a new school board director of Orcas Island School District. She is replacing Diane Boerstler.

Broderick took the oath of office during the April 23 board meeting via ZOOM. Her appointment will expire in November 2021.

Broderick is a native Washingtonian, however, she found herself outside of the state for a few years, beginning in 2001. During a college summer job working as a tour director for Holland America in Alaska, she met her future husband, Daniel. Alaska will forever have a place in their hearts; however, in 2010 their first child was born and within the year they felt it was important to build relationships with family and made the decision to head south to Texas, Daniel’s home state.

During their time in Texas, they opened a coffee roasting business that still flourishes today and Bridget began her tenure with Western Governor’s University. All the while, her family was missing the Northwest. Daniel made a call to T Williams Realty and Mandy Randolph answered the phone. They then flew to Seattle, and while having a burger at Dick’s received a phone call from their realtor in Texas. As luck would have it, their Texas house sold the first day it was on the market. They then met with Mandy that same afternoon and purchased a house on Orcas the very next day. They have not looked back since! They feel blessed every day to call Orcas Island home.

Bridget and Daniel have three children who attend Orcas Island Elementary in first, second, and fourth grade. They love the community-driven environment of the school, the emphasis in outdoor education, and the commitment of the staff.

Bridget looks forward to further involvement in the OISD community and enhancing the educational journey of our children.
