Mapping island makers with the San Juan Makers Guild and EDC

Submitted by the Economic Development Council of San Juan County.

Makers — from craftspeople to engineers and from hobbyists to business owners — are invited to join the Economic Development Council of San Juan County to begin asset mapping with the San Juan Makers Guild from noon-1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26 via Zoom. Presenters are Marcy Montgomery and Stephen Shrader, co-founders of the San Juan Makers Guild, a nonprofit program.

The San Juan Makers Guild is gathering input from makers across all creative, food, building and technology sectors to provide an inclusive picture of San Juan County makers’ capacities, current needs, and future opportunities. This asset mapping project will help businesses identify and develop sales and employment opportunities to build the maker economy in San Juan County.

This meeting continues the EDC’s series of events to support entrepreneurship, education, and innovation by encouraging the development of a county-wide makerspace system. At these virtual gatherings, islanders can hear from people who are making this happen and get to know others in our community who are working on these issues.

The meeting will be held from noon-1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26 via Zoom. Registration is required but, due to privacy concerns, registration is limited to adults over 18. To register, visit sanjuansedc.org/makerspace-system/.
