Crow Valley Pottery’s “Made in America” art show opens this Friday, July 23, with an artist’s reception at Crow Valley’s Eastsound gallery, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Long time Orcas Island painter David Ridgway is one of the featured artists. Formerly a full-time resident of Orcas, he recently relocated to Bellingham and his appearances here in the islands have been limited.

Ridgeway is well known for his broad brush strokes, rich contrasting colors and liberal application of paint to the canvas. His work captures scenes and sights of Orcas that are well known and much loved, as well as others that remain hidden treasures.

Additional island artists showing at ‘Made in America’ include Diane Kasparek, creator of contemporary interpretations of classic ‘floor cloths’, and Susan Roller Mustard, who creates original collages made of vintage book covers organizers say are “creative and fabulous”.

Artists from across the country will also be bringing new works to Orcas.

Gary Carroll, a Virginia-based basket weaver, has been recognized as a “State Historic Treasure”. Marlene Dusbiber of Michigan hand-carves and paints birds and animals from reclaimed wood. Chris Giffen is a Portland area artist whose ‘found object’ art enjoys a loyal following.

Plein Air Washington Artists will also be showing work.

“From Steve Hill to Matt Dollahite, Ann Shrievgol and Al Courrier, and still more artists, this show promises to bring a new dimension to the art offerings on Orcas,” organizers say.

The show will run through Labor Day. For more information, call 376-4260.
