‘Love Letters, Beyond the Veil’

On Saturday, June 13 at 7:30 pm, Orcas Center is proud to present Seattle-based playwright and actress, Amontaine Aurore, in "Love Letters, Beyond the Veil."

On Saturday, June 13 at 7:30 p.m., Orcas Center is proud to present Seattle-based playwright and actress, Amontaine Aurore, in “Love Letters, Beyond the Veil.” In this world premiere of her new solo performance, she explores a lifelong quest for spiritual transcendence and a mystical romantic encounter that becomes all too human. Incorporating storytelling, music, dance and spoken word, Amontaine creates a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience.

It is directed by the innovative and meticulous Tikka Sears, with whom Amontaine has workied on three previous solo plays. Set backdrop designs are by the ingenious Celeste Cooning, who will do some magical paper cuts, but also has a few surprises in store. Costume design by the wildly creative Carolyn Hall, who is putting her trash fashion skills to great use in this show. Choreography is by the passionate and gifted Christy Fisher. Lighting design is by Robert Hall.

Amontaine Aurore is a Seattle-based writer and performer. Having been drawn to creative expression from a young age, she is grateful for an evolving artistic path from which to explore her mind, create worlds and investigate the complexities of human nature. As an actress, she has performed on stages and sets in Seattle, Montana, Los Angeles and New York, and is the winner of a national acting competition sponsored by Inspirational Productions. Since 2006, Amontaine has written and performed in her own original solo plays, including”Waiting for Billie Holiday and “My Name is Trazar.” In 2008, she toured her solo performance show, “Queen Rita’s Blues Alley” to New York and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. She is the recipient of the Creation Project grant, a year-long professional development program sponsored by the Central District Forum for Arts and Ideas and funded in part by the NEA and Microsoft. During her year as a Creation Project artist, Amontaine began working on her solo work  “Free Desiree.”Free Desiree” was accepted into the New York Fringe Festival in August 2013 where it was well received, and was named by Theater is Easy as a Fringe Best Bet and by Indie Theater Now as one of the best new scripts in the 2013 Festival. “Free Desiree” has also played at the Velocity Dance Center and West of Lenin, in Seattle, as well as the Orcas Center.

Amontaine Aurore is the Founder and Artistic Director of Ten Auras Productions. Ten Auras’ mission “is to bring unique, thought-provoking and culturally hip theatrical productions and publications to people seeking entertainment and education that dares to veer from the beaten path. We seek to provide an opportunity for creative people (actors, directors, choreographers, writers, musicians, etc.) to bring their visions, hearts and souls to the table in an open and energetic exchange. We aim to mess with your mind, educate the heart, scintillate the funny-bone.”
