PERRY + CARLSON presents Martyrs & Myths, a solo exhibition by artist Kate Geddes, marking her first Washington state showing beyond Orcas Island. This highly anticipated exhibition is also the debut of her Disaster of Wars series — a body of work in response to recent wars, exploring the tension between destruction and transcendence, mortality and rebirth.
Geddes works in the realm of mythology, creating large-scale paintings that begin as intensely personal and cathartic, then evolve into universal meditations on fear, desire and transformation. After a successful career in San Francisco, California, Geddes retreated to her studio on Orcas, quietly creating hundreds of works over the last decade.
The show will be up through March 31 at PERRY + CARLSON, 510 South First Street, Mount Vernon — more information at www.perryandcarlson.com/gallery and www.geddesart.com. An opening reception on March 1 received in-kind support by HALO, whose mission is to increase the visibility of Orcas Island’s fine artists and inspire the next generation of artists.
