Saturday, April 12 many of the yoga teachers on Orcas Island met at the library to introduce themselves to one another and share their different styles of yoga. The popularity of yoga has grown in the United States in the last 10 years. Many types are now offered for strengthening, rehabilitation after injuries and stress management.

At the recent meeting, the yoga teachers decided to practice yoga together once a month and sponsor twice yearly workshops on the island to improve and inspire their yoga to new levels of professionalism.

From slow, gentle, and restorative yoga great for healing injuries or starting, to private instruction, and more challenging classes in ashtanga, vinyasa and power yoga, Orcas Island has classes in most disciplines. Meditation is also offered. There are 10 active teachers and three others that substitute from time to time.

Yoga classes on Orcas Island are offered at the Senior Center, Orcas Center, Odd Fellows Hall, Deer Harbor, Rosario Resort, Doe Bay, Fitness Quest in Eastsound, and the yoga studio at Orcas Mandala.
