Island Treasures featured in The World of Print

The art of four notable artists will be presented at Crow Valley Pottery‘s second of its summer show series on Friday, July 10.

“The World of Print” brings together a group of talented Orcas Island artists to showcase their original and diverse artworks. A year in the planning, this special show culminates the efforts of these women in their first group showing.

Rosemary Kimball has been a printmaker for many years and has amassed a collection of her hand-struck prints that spans both generations and continents. Created on her own presses, these works present a variety of Kimball’s styles as they pass through various periods and phases of her life. Some of the works have not been publicly viewed before; still others have been tucked away for years.

Susan Mustard Roller is a more recent addition to the Orcas community. Roller is focused on the medium of collage for this show, which she states are “wrought” as they emerge from her studio. Her works take shape from their beginnings as old leather-bound book covers. Roller brings experiences that range from Texas politics, teaching art, psychotherapy and art therapy, to painting in water color, acrylic and oil.

Christina Orchid is well-known as the long-time owner of the iconic Christina’s restaurant (which she sold last year.) For this show, she has returned to her roots as an artist and collector. Trained at the Pacific Northwest School of Fine arts, Orchid explores the medium of collage and collograph using found objects, ephemera and papers in a constructive style, with an emphasis on rhythm and texture.

Joining the trio is one of Crow Valley’s favorite printmakers, Natalia Moroz. Trained at the St. Petersburg School of Fine Art, Moroz brings a fine art balance to the show with her linocuts. Her new series presents a range of subject and color usually not found in this medium.

“The World of Print” opens at Crow Valley Pottery’s downtown Eastsound gallery on Main Street on Friday, July 10, with an artist reception from 4 to 8 p.m. The show will be up through August 8. Call Crow Valley at 376-4260 for additional information.
