Growing up on Orcas Isaac Frausto discovered hip-hop as something positive that he could focus his energy on, and because he wants to share his passion with others he is funding a hip-hop Event at the Odd Fellows Hall on Saturday June 27 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.

“I’ve been a big hip-hop fan my whole life and I rap myself,” Frausto said. “There is not much of a scene here and people don’t know what it’s all about. I thought I would put something together to give Orcas a bit more of a taste of hip-hop.”

Calling it the 1st Annual Orcas Island Summer Hip-Hop Fest, Frausto has spent $2500 to create a “celebration of the culture through art, dance and music.”

The performers are donating their time and being reimbursed for their travel expenses. Frausto and his brother are providing accommodations a their homes for them.

The entertainment lineup includes “Bloodshot with DJ Einstein,” “D. Fox,” “Somebody Cares,” “The Productionist,” “The Knowgooders,” and members of “206 Zulu.” There will be beatboxing, breakdancing, the creation of a graffiti wall, live hip-hop music and a barbeque. The admission price is $8 at the door and it’s an event for all ages.

“The bands were really excited to do it,” Frausto said. “Many of them are friends of mine. It’s been a lot of work, but it’s a labor of love. It’s something I have always wanted to do. It’s going to be a lot of fun. I hope people will come out and enjoy it as a real positive thing.”
