‘In the Landscape, Far and Near’

The November Art Exhibit at the Orcas Island Library features work by Pamela Jenkins. Below is the artist’s statement:

I’ve always enjoyed creating art in some form, starting with the fiber arts.

About 20 years ago, I found myself drawn to pastel paintings, perhaps because their soft, visual texture reminded me of working with fibers, but in the form of a painting.

As I began seeking landscapes to paint in pastel, I became much more observant of the changing light, forms and beauty I find whereever I am. This has so enhanced my constant delight of the natural world!

Recently, I’ve begun to look down at the very small things around me in the landscape – in the woods, on the beach, in tide pools, gardens… that we often pass over with little notice. I love painting them in much larger form, playing with color and contrast for others to really take a closer, longer LOOK at them with new eyes. Acrylic and oil paints have now been added to my toolbox.

Here you will see some of the work I’ve done in the last 20 years. Some are in my personal collection and some are for sale. If you see a piece you might like to have, please contact me directly for availability and price. You can also find more of my work at Crow Valley Gallery and the Artworks.
