‘Growing Vegetable Crops from Seeds’

On Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 10:30 am, the Orcas Island and Lopez Island Garden Clubs’ virtual (Zoom) meeting will feature Carol Miles who will discuss Growing Vegetable Crops from Seeds.

Miles will discuss growing various vegetables from seeds. Her presentation will include timing of planting and caring for the seed crop, and some general garden techniques that lead to success in the garden.

Miles is a Professor in the Department of Horticulture at Washington State University and is the Horticulture Specialist and the Interim Director at the Washington State University Mount Vernon Northwestern Washington Research and Extension Center. She specializes in vegetable crop production as well as cider apple production and has a strong interest in alternative crops and organic production. Her current research program focuses on grafting melon and watermelon, sweet potato production for northern climates, tea propagation, and using soil-biodegradable plastic mulch for vegetable and fruit production. Carol has her M.S. and Ph.D. in vegetable crops from Cornell University.
