“Growing Costs of U.S. Health Care Corporate Power vs. Human Rights Is Reform Finally Within Reach” by John Geyman, M.D., traces the history of health care in the United States over the last 60 years. The book describes failed reform attempts and how corporate profiteering and privatization are increasing problems.
Geyman supports not-for-profit national health insurance, as demonstrated by all other high-income countries, paid for by progressive taxation based on income, and outlines the benefits for patients and physicians. He is professor emeritus of family medicine at the University of Washington, served over 21 years in academic medicine and teaching and practiced in rural communities. The book is available at Darvill’s in Eastsound and Griffin Bay Bookstore in Friday Harbor.
