Gospel Choir presents ‘Gospel Mass’

The community church invites you to come hear the Orcas Island Community Gospel Choir perform “Gospel Mass,” led by returning composer/conductor Dr. Stephen Newby.

“We are thrilled to once again host Dr. Newby as he directs a community gospel choir here on Orcas,” says community church head pastor Brian Moss. “The Gospel Mass by Robert Ray is a one-of-a-kind work that brings together gospel music within the form of the traditional mass.”

Choir members from the Orcas community will be joined by members of SPU’s Gospel Choir and the choir from Antioch Bible Church of Redmond, Wash. Seattle Pacific University’s Gospel Choir presented this work under Newby’s direction this February.

Performances will be held at the community church at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, and at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 14. Tickets can be reserved online at orcaschurch.org/gospel-choir. There is a suggested donation of $20/person for the event, and everyone is welcome regardless of ability to pay.
