German musicians to perform at Grace Church

Grace Church presents harpsichordist Hans-Jürgen Schnoor, formerly organist and cantor at the St. Jakobi Church in Lübeck, and soprano Maike Albrecht, both from Lübeck, Germany. Baroque flutist Jeffrey Cohan and baroque oboist Sand Dalton will also appear during the concert on Thursday, March 19, 7 p.m.

The program, dedicated to the memory of Lopez resident Leta Marshall, will include Bach’s cantata Ich habe genug along with one of his flute sonatas and a trio sonata for oboe and flute. Schnoor will play Bach’s Partita Sei gegrüsset, Jesu gütig for solo organ on Grace Church’s copy of a north German baroque organ by Martin Pasi. The cantata Ihr volker hört from Georg Philipp Telemann’s Harmonischer Gottesdienst will also be performed.

Alongside her many concerts as a soloist in oratorio and as a member of various ensembles for early music, soprano Albrecht has sung such opera roles as Idamante in Mozart’s Idomeneo und Dido in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. She studied piano at the Folkwang Music Conservatory in Essen and voice at the Conservatory of Music in Lübeck and in Salzburg.

Harpsichordist, organist, fortepianist and conductor Schnoor is one of Germany’s leading performers of early keyboard music, and conductors of period instrument performances of the instrumental and choral works of Bach, Monteverdi, Mozart and others. Formerly cantor and organist at the St. Jakobi Church in Lübeck, he is currently professor for harpsichord and early performance practice at the Lübeck Conservatory of Music, and has been Music Director at the Vicelinkirche in Neumünster since 1980.

Flutist Cohan has performed as soloist in 25 countries, having received international acclaim both as a modern flutist and as one of the foremost specialists on all transverse flutes from the Renaissance through the present.

Sand Dalton began playing the baroque oboe in 1975 after graduating from the California Institute of the Arts, where he studied with Alan Vogel. He is internationally recognized as a maker of fine baroque woodwinds and regularly performs on baroque oboe, flute and recorder.
