Frank Loudin is one of Orcas Island’s most beloved and prolific artists.
Although he is most renowned for his paintings of American life, he is also a photographer. He uses the camera to compose most of his paintings.
Loudin will be making a presentation to the Orcas Island Camera Club at their next monthly meeting. He will present photographic examples of the inspirational subjects he selected for use in producing paintings. There will be images of his photographs and the paintings he made from them. There will also be an opportunity to ask him questions.
The presentation is at the Orcas Senior Center on Tuesday, March 1 at 7 p.m.
His focus will be the selection of subjects: what is the center of interest and how can we enhance it by the camera point of view? What needs to be addressed in making a good reference photo with the idea of creating a well designed painting? How to look for interesting dark and light patterns, colors, shapes, foreground, middle ground and background. How to plan the borders of the composition by cropping carefully.
The camera club is loosely organized club of Orcas photographers. There are members of all interests and skill levels. For more information email info@orcasislandcameraclub.org or call the director Paul Kamin at 376-2732.
