The French are coming to the Deer Harbor Community Club – French wines that is. This will be the third annual wine tasting event to help reduce the mortgage on the post office.

Four years ago the Deer Harbor community came together to try and keep the post office in the area. The postal officials had previously indicated they wanted to close the post office.  The community initiated a fundraising effort and was successful in raising enough money for a down payment for the building. The Deer Harbor Community Club now owns the building and is responsible for maintenance. Work parties are held periodically to make repairs and do yard work. Each year a fundraiser is held to help pay off the mortgage.

The wine tasting fundraiser will be held on Sunday, Aug. 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Deer Harbor Community Club. The wines are being provided by Eastsound Liquor and Wine Store. Call 376-5404 for more information.
