Fourth of July weekend events calendar

It is a busy weekend ahead with community fairs, parades, a mayor race, book sale, fireworks, and more.

Orcas Island

Friday, July 2

“Folly a Deux”: Art opening for Marc Foster Grant and Kate Scott. Orcas Center Gallery, reception at 5:30 p.m. Show runs through August 3.

Saturday, July 3

Pancake breakfast: At the Eastsound fire hall, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Parade: In Eastsound, 11 a.m., theme is “Community in Action.” Before the parade, Carl Burger will play on the Stage on the Green. Orcas Horns will be performing after.

Mayor crowned: At 3 p.m. on the Village Green Stage, the new mayor will be unveiled.

60th Annual Historical Day Fair: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Village Green. Games, food, homemade pies, demonstrations and more.

Lions Salmon BBQ: 1 to 6 p.m., American Legion. Adults $17, kids $8, tickets at the door, parade, Cherie Lindholm Realty, Kay’s, and Island Hardware.

Fireworks in Deer Harbor: Around 10 p.m., with live music from Dr. Dirty and the Band Du Jour at 7 p.m.

Sunday, July 4

Fireworks in Eastsound: The show is still up in the air, as of press time. Watch our website for updates.

Sail Orcas Alumni Regatta: A race between alumni, current students and adults, at the Orcas Island Yacht Club.

Westward Ho Parade: Four Winds Westward Ho campers will dress up and parade to Deer Harbor around 3:30 p.m. or 4 p.m.

Dance Party: At Odd Fellows Hall, 8:30 p.m., Solatones band and two DJs playing reggae, funk, and world beat. Cost is $10.

Lopez Island

Friday, July 2

Beach day: For three- and four-year-olds at Odlin Park, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Meet at Odlin Park, lower lot, cost $25. For more information, call (360) 468-4117.

Lopez Artist Guild: Art Show opening reception, 5 to 7 p.m. at Lopez Center.

Saturday, July 3

Overton Berry Trio: Outside the Edenwild Inn, 2 to 4 p.m. Tickets $15, available at www.livemusiconlopez.com. Benefits the Lopez School Music Advocacy Foundation.

Tiempo de Lopez concert: 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets in advance: adults $12, children $8, available from the Lopez Community Center office and online at www.lopezcenter.com. Tickets at the door: adults $15, children $10. Beer and wine for sale, bring your own picnic.

Sunday, July 4

Lopez Lions 5k and 10k Fun Runs: 8:30 a.m., awards at 10:15 a.m. at Islanders Bank. Registration: July 2 and 3, noon to 4 p.m. at Lopez Village Market and July 4 at 7 a.m. to 8:10 a.m. at Lopez Center.

Parade: Starts at 11 a.m., registration at 9 a.m. at ISLA Glass studio on Fisherman Bay Rd. (the old creamery). Prizes awarded at the Lopez Community Center following the parade.

Salmon BBQ: At the community center immediately following the parade, noon to 3 p.m. Sponsored by the Lopez Island Community Fireworks Committee, all proceeds to benefit the fireworks display. Tickets: adults $16, kids $10, available at the Lopez Island Chamber of Commerce (Tues. through Sat., 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and at the door.

Friends of the Library Book Sale: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Fireworks: At 10:30 p.m., can be viewed from anywhere along Fisherman Bay. Spit Rd. will be closed to all traffic during the fireworks.
