Orcas Chess Club: Meets at Eastsound Library at 3:30 p.m., every Monday afternoon. Members age five to 105 are welcome. Contact Phil Heikkinen at the library for details.

Al-Anon: The group on meets at 7:30 p.m. in the Old Parish Hall to the right of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Al-Anon is for friends and family of alcoholics.

open mic: At the Lower Tavern starting at 7:30 p.m. Jaen Black will host the event.

WEDNESDAY – ongoing

Theosophical Library: At Indralaya is open to the public from 1 to 4 p.m. The theosophical discussion group meets from 7:30 to 9 p.m. For info call 376-4526 or email indralaya@indralaya.com.

THURSDAY – ONGOING

Open Mic Pizza Night: A weekly benefit at Doe Bay Resort Cafe for a different nonprofit each month. Dinner served from 6 to 10 p.m. and the Open Mic starts between 7 and 8 p.m.

Donation drop-off: Granny’s Attic sale items can be dropped off at the Orcas Senior Center on Thursdays from noon to 3 p.m from March 12 to April 16.

SATURDAY – ONGOING

Ping Pong: The Orcas Table Tennis Association plays at the Orcas Christian School gym. The table tennis games run from 6 to 8 p.m. There is a $2 admission charge. For more info, call Jamey Hanse at 376-2240.

Wednesday, April 1

Boating slideshow: A slide show and talk about a small boat adventures at 7 p.m. at the Orcas Senior Center. The event is a fundraiser for the Orcas Island Rowing Association high school crew team. A $5 minimum donation at the door.

DVSAS meeting: Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services public community planning meeting from 11:30 a.m. For more information, call Anita Castle, Executive Director, at 376-5979.

“Funding Your Student’s Education”: Starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Funhouse. Will explain how investment decisions affect financial aid and taxes. Reservations are required. Please call the Funhouse at 376-7177.

Poetry Reading: River Malcom will give a reading and book signing at Darvill’s Bookstore, celebrating publication of her new book, “Magic Carpet: Selected Poems,” at 7 p.m. Refreshments. For information call Malcolm at 376-4548.

Drum circle: Michael Goude of Earth Tribe Percussions will lead a community drum circle at 6:30 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Hall. Admission is by donation. All funds support prevention programming in the community.

Saturday, April 4

Science program: From 1 to 4 p.m. KWIAHT (Center for the Historical Ecology of the Salish Sea) will hold its annual meeting at the Odd Fellows Hall to highlight its new citizen science program.

Coffelt’s Farm field trip: A spring walk at the Coffelt Farm from 1 to 3 p.m. Visit lambs, cows, the pig yard and hen house, browse the garden, gaze into the workshop and more. The walk is limited to 20; call Orcas Rec at 376-5339. Primarily for ages 6 and up. The cost is $10.

Folk music at the Grange: The Wanderers and Tom Rawson return to the Grange at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $12. Info: 376-3613

Philanthropic education organization lunch: Chapter IU of the P.E.O.s in the San Juans celebrates its 12th birthday with an annual luncheon at the Orcas Hotel starting at noon.Call Lois at 376-5277 or Karen at 376-5288 to make a reservation. The cost is $17.

Tuesday, April 7

Camera Club meeting: In the Lundeen Room of the Orcas Senior Center at 7 p.m. Presentations on portraiture, and photos of Alaska and Death Valley, along with a tutorial on automating PhotoShop. More information, contact Dave Kosiur at 376-5746.

First day of new food bank location: The Orcas Food Bank is moving to the south side of the Orcas Island Community Church, 176 Madrona Street. It is open from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
