Doss chosen as 2020 undergrad commencement speaker at Hamline University

Ray Doss, an education and social studies major with a political analysis concentration has been chosen to be the 2020 senior speaker at Hamline University in Minnesota.

Doss is from Orcas Island and has lived in Minnesota for the past four years. Throughout his time at Hamline, he has served on Student Congress, as well as worked for Hamline’s Public Safety Department, the McVay Youth Partnership, and New Student Programs. He also co-taught the “Snelling Connection” journalism class at Hamline Elementary. After graduation, Doss plans student teach and begin his career as a high school social studies teacher.

The senior speaker selection committee chose Doss from four finalists who auditioned for the role on March 13. Senior speaker candidates were asked to prepare a draft of a speech that they would offer the graduating class, families and guests. Students, faculty and staff were present for the final auditions and offered the selection committee their feedback on the finalists’ speeches.
