If you love the break out dance numbers in Bollywood movies, Orcas Conservatory is inviting you to attend a “Bollywood Dance Class” with Prashant Kakad from Portland, Ore.

“Prashant  was a DJ and taught a Bollywood dance at a wedding recently and we have it first hand that it was a total blast!” said Deborah Sparks, Theatre Productions Director.

The class will be held on Friday, Sept. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. for adults and kids ages 13+ at Orcas Center. Tuition is $15 at the door.

Originally from Mumbai, India, Kakad is an entertainer based out of Portland, Ore. After coming to the U.S. in 2003, he attended Cornell University where he earned a Master of Science degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. While there, he went on to publish papers found in reputed journals and obtain a patent to make Electrospun nanofiber-based biosensor assemblies, an idea he founded.

Upon graduation, Kakad moved to Oregon to work at Intel as a Process Engineer. He would stay for more than three years before fully realizing his true passion for music and dance. In September 2009, Prashant left his job at Intel to begin “Bollywood Dreams Entertainment.”

Kakad has taught more than 250 workshops at weddings, fundraisers, private events and cultural events. He has taught dance in universities such as Reed College, Portland State and Portland Community College. He currently teaches at Euphoria Dance Studio in Southeast Portland to groups of more than 30 students weekly.
