Dallas Brass returns to Orcas Center

Orcas Center is hosting the return of the nationally renowned Dallas Brass who delighted hundreds of Orcas Islanders back in March. This lively group will give a public performance over Labor Day weekend, on Sunday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m.

“Orcas Island was the ensemble’s choice for a one-week rehearsal residency,” said Mike Levine, director of the group. “We start each season with an extended rehearsal period and for this to take place in an environment that is as inspiring as Orcas Island is a real treat.”

Orcas Center will host the group for a week, providing valuable rehearsal space in exchange for a public performance. Following the performance, a dessert potluck will give members of Dallas Brass the opportunity to visit with audience members. Interfacing with communities is not foreign to Dallas Brass. Last March, they delighted over 550 students and teachers during an all-schools assembly, gave a master class and invited members of the Orcas Island Community Band to be part of their public performance. Members of the Ensemble sat in with Martin Lund during one of his Friday night pub nights, and others sat in on an orchestra rehearsal for “Gypsy.”

All tickets to the Dallas Brass concert on Sept. 5 are $10. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.orcascenter.org or call or 376-2281 ext. 1 or visit Orcas Center during box office hours, Thursday-Saturday, noon to 4 p.m.
