County attorneys recognized at annual bar lunch

Submitted by The San Juan County Bar Association.

Barnaby Zall and Carla Higginson were recognized with certificates of appreciation for their work in 2017 and 2018 in behalf of the San Juan Coounty Bar Association and the Washington State Bar Association during the county association’s annual holiday lunch on Friday, Dec. 12, in Friday Harbor.

Zall did considerable legal analysis and writing regarding important WSBA issues currently before the membership. Higginson previously accepted an appointment to fill a vacancy on the state association’s board of governors, and also supported the SJCBA continuing legal education program by repeatedly hosting recorded seminars at her office.

Three members practicing on Orcas Island — Tom Fiscus, Larry Hampel and Selby Lighthill — were introduced, and each gave a short synopsis of their careers and current areas of practice. Former SJCBA Treasurer Stephen Brandli was again elected to that position for 2019, and John Chessell was re-elected as president of the association.

The San Juan County Bar Association offers referrals to local attorneys practicing in a wide variety of areas and can be reached via email at sjcba@rockisland.com.
