Child Passenger Safety Technician Training, Feb. 18-20

Submitted by Orcas Island Fire & Rescue.

Orcas Island Fire & Rescue will host a Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) Training Feb. 18-20, at Eastsound Fire Station, 45 Lavender Lane. This nationally recognized certification course trains participants to properly install and inspect child safety seats.

The three-day course costs $95. Several OIFR members will participate to support the revitalization of our Car Seat Loan Program, which has been paused and is now preparing to reopen. The training concludes with a free community car seat check event. Newly certified technicians and experienced instructors will provide hands-on guidance to parents and caregivers. Organizations interested in participating can contact Public Education Specialist Becca McDowell.

“OIFR received a grant to bring instructors to Orcas Island and purchase training aids, car seats for low-income families, and restore the car seat loaner program. This is a great public safety program we are happy to provide,” said Fire Chief Chad Kimple.
