Chief Baker plays at music in park arts & Entertainment

Chief Baker, the Orcas Island based musical ensemble, will be performing for the Music in the Park Series at the Eastsound Village Green on Sunday, Aug. 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. The band will perform their eclectic repertoire of Reggae, Roots, and Funk, playing both originals and covers.

Chief Baker includes Alfred Bentley on saxophone, Dennis McGrath on percussion and vocals, Ryan McGrath on bass guitar and vocals, and Fabrice Van Putten on guitar and vocals. Featured guests will include Greg (Mr. Science) Books on saxophone, Dustin Fox with words and inspiration, and Randy Smith’s Spanish and African guitar influences.

Sitar music concert on Lopez

Raga as performed by the Mishras of Kind Music, will be presented at the Lopez Center for Community and the Arts (LCCA) on Aug. 11

The Mishras’ live performing raga is said to be as vibrant in the hands of its sitar artists, Pandit Shivnath Mishra and Deobrat Mishra, and tabla artist Marco Zonka, as it was in the time of the ancients.

Tickets for the concert on Monday, Aug. 11 at 7:30 p.m. are available in advance from the Community Center office, Paper Scissors on the Rock, Blossoms Organic Grocery, Islehaven Books, Islandale Southender and online for $15 for adults and $10 for youths.

Ellen Wherrette at Key Bank

Orcas Island artist Ellen Wherrette will be display her paintings and sculpture throughout the month of August at Key Bank’s location in Eastsound. According to the artist, her paintings explore color and form as they describe an imaginary realm. “The sculpted works relate to the paintings through imagery, color and form. The latest sculpture will continue to evolve throughout the month of August while it resides at the bank,” Wherrette says.

A reception to launch the show will take place on Friday, Aug. 8 from 3 to 5 p.m.
