The community is invited to attend the Long Live the Kings’ Salmon Homecoming on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Glenwood Springs Hatchery, 1649 Olga Rd in Eastsound. The annual event is held to thank volunteers, provide tours of the hatchery, and invite the community to enjoy a cookout.
Residents are also encouraged to attend a screening of the film “Call of the Orcas,” a short film highlighting the conservation work of the late Ken Balcomb, and the Center for Whale Research. Following the film, there will be a panel discussion that includes the film director Jessica Plumb, and others who assisted with research for the film. Light refreshments will be provided. The screening is Thursday, Sept. 23 from 6 – 9 p.m. at Orcas Center, 917 Mt. Baker Rd. in Eastsound.
Please RSVP to bit.ly/Salmon23; both events are free to the public.
