CD release concert and benefit for Kids and Canoes

Sharon Abreu and Michael Hurwicz of Irthlingz Arts-Based Environmental Education (Irthlingz) will present a musical evening celebrating the release of their CD, Songs to Save the Salish Sea.

The concert, from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, at the Odd Fellows Hall in Eastsound, will benefit Irthlingz, based on Orcas, and the Kids and Canoes project which will bring together kids from Orcas Island and the Lummi Nation to row together in a canoe built by Dean Washington of the Lummi Nation.

The Kids and Canoes project is headed by artist and longtime Orcas resident Peter Fisher. Between songs, Fisher will talk about the project and share highlights from his soon-to-be-published book, “A Vision for Madrona Point.”

Silent auction items will be on display when the doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Admission: $10-$15 suggested donation (less if you can’t, more if you’re able and so moved.) Donations will be gratefully accepted at the door before the concert begins. There are no advance ticket sales. Donations are greatly appreciated; no one turned away for lack of funds. All donations are tax-deductible.

Proceeds from the silent auction will be split between the artist and the Kids and Canoes project. (Minimum starting bids will be set by the artists.) Artists who would like to donate a piece for the silent auction are encouraged to contact Sharon Abreu.

Irthlingz Arts-Based Environmental Education is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. And what better way to celebrate than with a new CD to save the beautiful and delicate Salish Sea in which we live, and a project that brings together local kids to row, play, work and learn together.
