Call for artists at Orcas Center

Submitted by the Orcas Center.

The Visual Arts Committee of Orcas Center welcomes artists of all genres to participate in the next community show: “Art and The Elements,” with featured Artist Peter Olesen in the lobby.

Installation day: Thursday, March 20, 10:15 a.m. to noon.

Art opening: Friday, March 21, 5:30-7 p.m.

On display: March 21 through April 22.

Pickup: Wednesday, April 23, 10:15 a.m. to noon.

For this community show, we’re celebrating the four foundational forces of nature: earth, wind, fire and air. We invite artists of all mediums – painting, sculpture, photography, digital art, mixed media and more – to submit their work inspired by the theme of the four elements.

Whether illustrating the solid, grounding nature of Earth, the ever-changing currents of wind, the transformative energy of fire, the fluidity of water or the lightness of air, this exhibition will showcase the creativity and imagination of artists interpreting the world around them.

Community shows are open to all island artists, beginning and experienced alike. The purpose is to showcase island art and celebrate our creative neighbors! To exhibit in a community show, an artist needs to come on the installation day (for this show, March 20) with their artwork ready to be displayed or hung.

Artists are urged to attend and contribute hors d’oeuvres for the Artist Reception on Friday, March 21, starting at 5:30 pm.
