An Orcas-reared hometown boy is coming home this April, and bringing some country with him: Caleb Klauder and His Country Band will perform his “new old-timey vision of country and honky-tonk music” on Saturday, April 9 on the Orcas Center Stage.

“Caleb Klauder’s music can make you believe in reincarnation,” said a band representative. “There’s little other explanation for why a small-island Washingtonian can write, play, and sing music that sounds like it should be rolling out of a Great Depression honky-tonk. You can nearly hear the dust sifting off his guitar strings as he taps into the deep roots of country music to create a whole new sound he calls “Western Country.’ “

The band will be joined in this performance by Tennessee and Louisiana musician Johanna Divine, whose latest country-western album is “Mile-High Rodeo.”

Klauder last performed at Orcas Center with his Foghorn String Band. Over the past ten years, The Foghorn String Band toured the US and the world and was signed to a major label (Nettwerk) for their first major commercial release, Weiser Sunrise. In his early days (the 1990s) Klauder played with his folk-rock band Calobo, later with the old time string band Pig Iron.

“What started as a side project to allow Caleb to delve into his love for amplified old-time country music, has now become the Caleb Klauder Band,” said the representative. “Taking Caleb’s  deep knowledge of honky-tonk, country and early string band music, and centering this on Caleb’s captivating voice and powerful mandolin chops, the Caleb Klauder Band is a rising star in today’s Americana pantheon. With a brand-new album, “Western Country,” dropping in summer 2010 and a national CD release tour, the Caleb Klauder Band is a name that will soon be on everyone’s lips.”

The show is at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25, $17 for Orcas Center members and $11 for students.
