It is the 25th Anniversary of Orcas Center, and two major annual awards were bestowed upon two community members at the March 13 annual meeting and party.
Beth Baker was awarded the 18th Bunny award for best actor of the year and Pierrette Guimond received the 25th Margaret Exton award for volunteer service.
Baker is a “triple threat”: she is an actor, singer and dancer. She is beloved to Orcas audiences for her appearances in eight major Orcas Center productions – from “On Golden Pond” in 1995 to “Jesus Christ Superstar” in 2002 to her 2010 “role of a lifetime” as Mama Rose in “Gypsy.”
Guimond has been the number one grounds volunteer at Orcas Center, working tirelessly on the center’s landscaping for over two years. She consistently recruits other grounds volunteer and organizes two student work parties per year, in addition to plying her tools to the complicated gardens and foliage surrounding the center.
