“Art Happens” show celebrates works of unusual art

Local artists who work in non-traditional media or subject matter are invited to exhibit their work at Orcas Center through February. The exhibit, “Art Happens!”, while not omitting the kind of mainstream art that comprises most shows, seeks to emphasize the work of island artists whose creative efforts have found unique or unusual outlets.

“A surprising number of artists on Orcas Island are pursuing diverse, very interesting creative paths all their own,” said show coordinator Joe Floren, of the Center’s Visual Arts committee. “In this show we are trying to seek out these less-traditional artists and showcase their work.” He said early signup has been very encouraging.

“No limit will be placed on subject matter or media,” said Floren. “The show will encourage the elegant, welcome the unique and exhibit a high tolerance for the outrageous.”

“Art Happens!” will open with a reception Friday evening, Feb. 4. Would-be participants may contact Floren at jfloren@centurylink.net.
