I would like to comment on Sheriff Krebs’ statement regarding the current protests. Police departments around the country — with good cause — feel under siege. This is an appropriate time for citizens of San Juan Country to express our gratitude to the men and women of our Sheriff’s Office for their professionalism, dedication and sustained service as they keep our community safe, secure, peaceful, and welcoming. They and their families are our neighbors and they share our love for these islands. You can let them know that they’re appreciated by a simple wave as you pass on the roads, or if you see them in town. Their safety remains in our thoughts and prayers.
