The Commissioners of San Juan County Cemetery District No. 3 would like to thank Joyce Nigretto for her 14 years of service as a commissioner with the district. Before she became a commissioner she participated in a volunteer group that painstakingly went through all the records available at that time. This was a huge undertaking to understand and organize them. Her knowledge of the history of Orcas Island and the residents who have lived here was invaluable during this process. These records are now in binders at both cemeteries and at the Orcas Island library, allowing easy access to finding families and friends.

After participating in the volunteer group Joyce was elected to be a commissioner in 2006. She continued to bring her lifelong knowledge to the commission while they continued to update the maps and records and maintain the cemeteries themselves. She was a reliable, dependable and conscientious commissioner. The commission is forever grateful for her dedication to the families and taxpayers of Orcas Island. The current commissioners wish her all the best.
