Thank you from SAFE San Juans | Letters

SAFE San Juans would like to thank our Orcas Island community for the engagement and support of our Sexual Assault Awareness Month activities. The attendance and engagement with our #MeToo Town Halls were energizing as we see community members willing to stand up and work for changes on this issue.

Also, the generous support and participation in our second annual 5k Glow Run made the challenging weather more than bearable! The 73 runners and walkers who braved the “gale force winds” ranged from 10 to 80 years of age. And with the help of the following generous sponsors, we were able to raise a little over $4,000!

A big thank you to: Country Corner, Island Market, Orcas Athletics and Crossfit, Orcas Online, Rock Island, Dr. Bailey’s dental office, Islanders Bank, Washington Federal Bank, Key Bank, Lower Tavern, Orcas Septic Service, Outlook Inn, T. Williams Realty, Mia’s, Orcas Family Health Center, Orcas Food Co-op and Ray’s Pharmacy! Your amazing support is helping to keep our abuse prevention project strong!

Sexual assault is never an easy topic to address. We have heard the community conversations and are happy to provide, in partnership with Orcas Island Elementary School (OIES), a Parent Education Night entitled: “Safe Sexuality Education and Abuse Prevention for Parents/Guardians of Elementary Age Children” at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 4, at OIES Cafeteria. This informative class will have presentations by professionals, take-home tools and a chance for engaged learning. Watch for more details or call SAFE San Juans (360-376-5979) or OIES School Counselor Sandi Burt (360-376-1592) for more information.

As a local based nonprofit who relies completely on donations and grants, SAFE San Juans continues to be very grateful for all of the continued support from our Orcas Island community. Your generosity is changing and saving lives! Thank you!
