Remembering Orcas Center | Letter

In the mid ‘90s many volunteers gave a combined effort in the construction and opening of the Orcas Center. Two of these dedicated persons were Marjorie and Gordon Hayes. Marjorie was a social busy bee in that she contacted possible donors, and was making hundreds of her famous cookies and meals for the events leading to the opening. She has since passed away. Gordon Hayes, whose 86th birthday is Sept. 31, will be on-island to recapture a bit of the magic. His expertise was sound and stage in Las Vegas for 55 years. He constructed the lighting, electrical and sound system for the Orcas Center at his own expense. He loved the people, the island and the 10 years he resided in Eastsound.

Gordon would be very pleased to visit with or hear from friends who may remember him. If there is any way he could reunite with others at the center, that would be a memorable birthday delight for him, I’m sure. Please call me, his son Philip, at 435-862-0303.
